The following are all in my local area and feasible financially. Give me some thoughts on my local picks and send something similarly worhty of my time and money from your local areas.
01 Toyota MR2: $9300 (absolute top end of budget)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
1995 Nissan 240SX "Built": $8800 (also, at the top end of my theoretical budget) but would be familiar as I DD a 1995 D21 Nissan Hardbody 4x4
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
1995 BMW 525i manual: $5500 (about 2k more than I would offer or value it at)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
1989 BMW 325is manual coupe: $3700 (this seems like the actual best candidate because enthusiast owned and also it's outside of county inspection status)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So there you have my fun car/DD picks from my local area, post some things similar from your local radius. (travel no more than 75 miles)
PS: This is at least until the FoRS is with us :)

MR2 with a 2ZZ is one of my dream builds. That car will be amazing.

Why? What makes it so special? I drove a, I guess "basic bitch" MR2, once. It was boring but that may have been because only taking it to the detail shop and it had some form of a Semi-auto.

I think the top two are the best. The MR2 is effectively a cheap Elise, and the S14 is sort of "restomod" status. Better engine, uprated Nissan brakes, newer Nissan wheels, and just so clean. It just looks so well taken care of.

The 2ZZ is the same motor in the Elise. It's insane.

It's the tuned ZZ engine they put in the Elise and a few upper-trim level mid-2000s 'Yotas. About 40 more hp than stock (big difference in a 2200 lb car), revs way higher, and has variable lift. IIRC, it's still the only Toyota to have variable lift. Also very easy to tune. People have gotten them over 200 whp with simple bolt ons and ECU tune.

As a MKIII MR2 owner— that MR2 would be so much fun . The taillight and intake insert swap, and the blackout between the taillights are... questionable, and you'd REALLY want to brace it up (search for MSMB). The rest of it looks pretty good. I thought about doing the chin blackout on mine, before I switched to the canvas top.

I like getting informed information on everything I look at.

Holy crap. Wish I had some local Oppos to check these out with. Most times when I look under the hood of a car (not a Land Rover) I have literally no idea what I am looking at

Personally, I don't trust 240s. They're great cars, but the drift bros have destroyed most of them. Also when I see that a heavily tuned engine was just rebuilt 2000 miles ago, that fires off huge red flags for me. That makes me think that there's more to the story.

The fact that it's a 2ZZ swap with stock wheels is pretty huge— it's really really easy to fuck up the handling on these cars, as discovered by too many dipshits who parked theirs in ditches or around trees.

Push your max up a tad or let me work him down some and this could be fun.

Being in SW Virginia it was an overload of stockish to full modded Fox bodies and new edge mustangs, Wranglers, Trucks and surprising light on E46 bmws like you see in Northern VA. Did see some other cool needles in the haystack. A second S2000 with a salvage title with a ton of work done to it but needs a tune, some cool restored classics, a JCW mini, a couple other cool Miatas, and a rather nice looking 06 Acura TL with a 6-speed apparently in A-Spec trim (I dunno sounds special).

Yeah, it's super clean. Everything about this is pointing to it being done right and being an absolute gem. If I were in the market for another car at the moment and this were in my budget, I'd be willing to drive or fly all of the way up there from Florida to check it out.

Surprised it isn't on Spyderchat. The cosmetic stuff is fixable, but the bones look to be impeccable. Just needs bracing.

you're looking at a serious winner if you want to make it so.
